That’s where we come in – ensuring your pets receive the love, exercise, and attention they deserve, 24/7, 365 days a year. Most importantly, we offer you peace of mind, knowing your furry friends’ needs are being met when you can’t be there for them.

Dog Walking
Our experienced pet nannies are available to visit your home daily, whether you’re at work, on vacation, or attending to other commitments. We offer flexible visit lengths ranging from 20 to 60 minutes, with up to four visits a day to suit your specific needs. Our primary services include walking, exercising, feeding, providing fresh water, playtime, and plenty of hugs and kisses. Additionally, we can assist with tasks like bringing in mail, watering plants, taking out garbage cans, and even handling pet errands such as vet visits. Rest assured, your pets will receive the attention they need to stay happy and healthy.
Pet Sitting and Boarding
For those looking for a home-like environment, our “in-home” pet boarding service is an excellent choice. We welcome your pets into a loving, crate-free setting in our home, where they’ll be treated like family. With only 1-4 dogs at a time, we ensure each pet gets personalized attention, plenty of exercise, and a chance to make new friends. Mealtime is carefully monitored to prevent food sharing, and all vitamins and medications are administered as required. When permitted, we even include our own healthy treats to add a little extra love.
Overnight Pet Care
For ultimate comfort and convenience, we offer customized overnight pet care services in your home. Perfect for households with multiple pets, older animals, or those requiring special attention, our nannies can stay for a single night or extended periods, such as a month-long vacation. This service also doubles as house-sitting, ensuring your home is cared for while you’re away. Whether it’s a business trip or a long-awaited getaway, your pets will feel comfortable and cared for in their familiar environment.
Service Area
For dog walking, our dedicated nannies serve the following areas: Colts Neck, Freehold, Howell, Manalapan, Marlboro, Farmingdale, Tinton Falls, and Jackson. We’re committed to providing reliable, caring service to these communities, ensuring your pets get the exercise and attention they deserve.
For overnight dog stays, you don’t need to live in one of the towns listed above. We welcome pet owners from all areas! Contact us to arrange a meeting where your dog can experience our warm, welcoming environment, and you can tour the space where your furry friend will stay during your vacation.
Our Team
Maryann Alvarez - Owner
“I look forward to many more years of providing exceptional pet care for our human and furry clientele.”
MaryAnn grew up in NYC and has been living in Monmouth County for the past 30 years. A very proud mom to three grown children, all raised during her 25-year career in staffing and recruitment, she began searching for a home-based startup business in 2003, seeking a new path and challenge. Although MaryAnn has always loved pets, having had many of her own and cared for friends’ and family members’ pets, she initially had no experience in the pet-sitting industry. After two years of research and due diligence, she realized that with her passion for all kinds of pets and her experience working with staffing and recruiting clientele, she could create a service company that would provide top-level pet care—something she could be proud of. In 2005, Animal Nannies: To Go or Stay was launched, and it has been her pride and joy ever since.
Emily Brous
“I am blessed to have found a job I am passionate about and appreciate the time it allows me to spend with my family. Not only is pet sitting rewarding, but you can’t beat working outdoors, getting fresh air, and exercising daily. It’s really a win-win and the perfect fit for me!”
Growing up in Middletown as the youngest of five children, Emily was always surrounded by pets, especially dogs. She now resides in Howell with her two children and has continued the tradition of having dogs in her life. Currently, she has a Boston Terrier named Jeter. Emily has been working at Animal Nannies since the beginning of 2014, after leaving a 20-year career in retail management. She truly loves her job and the flexibility it provides for her and her family.
Jana Lerner
“I find that working with furry kids really speaks to my soul.”
Jana has had a love for dogs and cats her entire life and has enjoyed pet sitting, both part-time and full-time, since high school. After graduating from Rutgers, she pursued a successful and demanding career as a Credit and Collections Analyst/Manager for over 15 years but has found working as a pet sitter to be far more fulfilling.
Jana has been part of the Animal Nannies team since 2010 and cherishes her time with all the furry clients and their human owners. She is proud to be part of the team and knows she always has a home with Animal Nannies.
FAQs
What types of pets do you care for?
We care for all domestic pets, ensuring they receive the love, attention, and care they deserve.
Why should I use Animal Nannies instead of boarding my pet at a kennel?
While the choice is yours, our experience shows that pets benefit from the familiar, personalized attention we provide. Staying in their own environment reduces stress, maintains their regular diet and exercise routines, limits exposure to illnesses, and offers them loving care while you’re away. With us, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your pet’s needs are met by dedicated professionals.
Why choose a professional pet sitter instead of asking friends or family?
Unlike friends or family doing you a favor, our focus is entirely on your pets. As bonded and insured professionals, we follow your specific instructions and provide consistent, reliable care. This ensures your pets receive the best care possible, and you have the freedom to give us feedback without hesitation.
What are your fees?
Our fees vary based on your specific needs and the frequency of visits. Schedule a FREE consultation today to discuss your pet’s care plan and associated costs.
What is included in a visit?
For dogs, visits include walks, playtime, fresh water, feeding, brushing, and plenty of love. Cats receive litter box maintenance, fresh water, feeding, playtime, and cuddles. We also accommodate care for other pets and administer medications as needed.
How many visits can I schedule per day, and can I request specific times?
The number of visits is entirely up to you! While we aim to meet time requests, we may arrive within 30 minutes before or after your preferred time. Let us know if medication timing is critical, and we’ll prioritize your needs.
How do I get started?
Contact us to schedule a FREE consultation! MaryAnn Alvarez, our Owner and Head Animal Nanny, personally conducts all consultations and often introduces another team member to ensure familiarity with your pet.
Will my pet always have the same Nanny?
Typically, your pet will work with at least two Nannies for consistent care. Each Nanny is personally trained by MaryAnn and introduced to your pet before taking over their care.
How far in advance do I need to book visits?
For existing clients, notify us as soon as possible when you need our services. For new clients, we usually require at least a week’s notice for consultations and scheduling.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
We aim to be flexible. Cancel by 10:00 PM the night before your visit to avoid charges. For frequent cancellations, a rescheduling fee may apply.
How do you access my home?
Clients can provide keys or garage codes. If you prefer garage access, we ask that you keep a hidden key on your property in case of a power outage.
Can I receive updates about my pets?
Absolutely! Call, text, or email us for updates. We promptly respond to keep you informed about your pets.
Do you administer medications or give injections?
Yes! We are experienced in administering pills, drops, ointments, and insulin injections.
What happens if my Nanny can’t make it due to an emergency?
Our team is cross-trained, so another Nanny who is familiar with your pet will step in to provide seamless care.
What if my pet has separation anxiety?
Daily visits from an Animal Nanny often help alleviate separation anxiety by providing consistent companionship and care. We’re patient, understanding, and skilled at earning the trust of anxious pets. Discuss your pet’s needs with us and your vet to create the best plan for their well-being.
